Michal Cihlář is a graduate of the Academy of Arts and Crafts, a pioneering figure in Czech modern linocut. In his work, he focuses mainly on graphic art, namely the technique of multi-coloured or coloured linocut. However, he also deals with illustration, collage, author's books and photography. For his contribution to the field of free and applied graphics he received the prestigious Vladimír Boudník Award. In his work, with his unmistakable handwriting, we can find many still lifes of ordinary or bizarre objects, erotic toys, portraits of loved ones, nudes, scraps from his travels, postage stamps, as well as the visual identity of the Prague Zoo. He has exhibited both in the Czech Republic and abroad and his work is represented in many gallery collections, including the National Gallery in Prague.
