Laura Limbourg
- 1996, CZ
Laura Limbourg graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where she studied under Martin Mainer and Josef Bolf. In 2020, she became the laureate of the Critics' Award for Young Painting. The painter was born in Antwerp but grew up in the Czech Republic. A key source of inspiration for her work was her six-month stay in Southeast Asia, which introduced exotic themes into her large-format paintings and onto the Czech art scene. Her seemingly naive and romantic narratives, upon closer examination, address serious, not only feminist, themes. She applies colors directly onto the canvas, using diluted paints to achieve her characteristic blurred contours.
